A postcard from Greenwich

Once a heavy industrial area, Greenwich Peninsular is one of the largest regeneration schemes in London and is now rapidly transforming into one of the City’s hippest residential districts.

Emerging over the next 20 years, the 150 acre site will see the development of seven different neighbourhood districts: Upper Riverside, Lower Riverside, Parkside, Peninsula Central, Meridian Quays, Brickfields Film District and Design District at a total estimated cost of £8.4 billion.

This bustling South East London village will provide homes for approximately 34,000 new residents and create in the region of 13,000 job opportunities.

The development is bordered by 1.6 miles of the River Thames and will provide 15,000 homes, 2 schools, a mix of cafes, bars and restaurants, places for music and art, a 5k riverside running track, a golf driving range and even a film studio! £500 million is to be spent on public places such as an amphitheatre, parks and gardens plus a Central Park-style area which runs straight down the middle of the Peninsular.

A major feature will be the architect Santiago Calatrava’s latest high profile project, a 1.4m sq ft building next to the O2 (formerly known as the Millennium Dome). Peninsula Place, as it will be called, is the centrepiece of the redevelopment of the Greenwich peninsula by the Hong Kong-based property company Knight Dragon This iconic building will consist of three 30-storey towers growing out of a base containing a cathedral-sized ‘galleria’, containing flats, a hotel, offices, retail and connections to a tube station and a bus station.

No matter what your housing requirement, be it a townhouse, loft dwelling, studio or riverfront penthouse, there will be something for everyone as the Peninsular grows and takes shape. Meanwhile, BK Nolte Contracts are proud to be involved with Waites and continue to design, supply and install top-quality kitchens to the hundreds of rising properties as this eclectic London village emerges.
